Acupuncture

Fine, sterile, single use needles are used during acupuncture treatment, in specific points that are located on a channel system in which energy flows around the body.

Acupuncture treatment then promotes the free flow of Qi* in order to harmonise, balance or nourish the body. As an example, pain is often the symptom we feel when qi is blocked. When qi is moving smoothly your body works better and you feel good in yourself, allowing your body to find the time and space to heal properly and deal with pain and illness. Blockages can be caused by either a physical or an emotional obstruction and both can be treated by acupuncture.

Acupuncture is very safe and most people find it deeply relaxing. It is beneficial and supportive for women’s health issues including: fertility, either to promote natural conception or working alongside ART; support throughout pregnancy; menstrual or gynaecological issues; enopause.

It is very effective for a wide range of chronic or complex illnesses including: pain; sleep; digestion; migraines and headaches; urine infections and more. It is a healthcare system in itself but can also be used alongside other medical treatment or other therapies.

*Qi is often translated as energy, life-force or simply breath.

Chinese Herbal Medicine

It has long been understood in many cultures that food is medicine and herbs have been used for thousands of years to maintain health as well as strengthening the body in order to repair disease.

Chinese Herbal Medicine dates back thousands of years with herbal formulas and treatments based on Chinese Medicine theory and practice which are used and adapted for modern health issues. Herbal formulas are designed specifically for the individual based on their diagnosis whole herbs, powders or pills.

A formula is a combination of herbs which is used primarily to enable the body to get backnto working with ease as opposed to with disease. Problems often become apparent with pain or skin problems, or when cycles such as sleep, digestion, menstruation are out of sync, when the body gets out of time.

Often we notice these changes particularly at times of transition such as around puberty, fertility or the menopause or during stressful periods of our lives.

In my practice I use high quality Chinese whole herbs which are and grown according to the DaoDi principle.

This means these certified herbs are grown in the right place and harvested at the right time, ensuring authenticity, the highest standards and complete traceability, as well as adhering to EU regulations. They are taken as a tea made by boiling whole herbs or more often ground herbs. The formula is changed as the treatment progresses.

Facial Acupuncture

Our face reflects our inner body

The times that we feel healthy and vibrant or the times when we feel tired or under the weather, it can be noticeable to ourselves and others by just looking at our face. Facial acupuncture has been used for thousands of years in China to naturally enhance wellbeing and appearance. Very fine needles are used in acupuncture points on the face and body to improve the flow of blood and qi by balancing the body and bringing vitality to the face.

This in turn promotes the repair and regeneration of the skin. It can help reduce the appearance of fine lines, crows feet, frown lines, smile lines, acne scarring as well as relaxing muscles that contract to cause lines such as those on the forehead. Skin can look clearer with improved colour and muscle tone and puffiness is reduced. The treatment is followed by relaxing facial massage which may including gua sha or light facial cupping.

Results can be seen after one treatment but research shows that 10 sessions can give longer lasting results followed by maintenance treatments.

From ancient needling to modern advanced needling techniques with the Dermapen

DERMAPEN

Dermapen is an advanced needling technology system which moves smoothly across the skin creating multiple channels through high speed, fine needles that injure the skin and immediately stimulate the skin’s natural collagen production and repair process. The healing of the skin happens almost immediately but the repair processes where your body creates, new, strong and healthy collagen will continue over the next 4-6 weeks.

During this treatment Dermapen can very effectively help to deliver advanced mesotherapy products tailored to your skin’s needs. These active products can target both the superficial and deeper layers of the skin. Because the Dermapen enables faster absorption of these topical active nutrients, the natural healing process of skin resurfacing works faster and there is little downtime with this treatment which is a great dvantage

You can expect a full consultation before treatment to assess your skin, any contraindications to treatment and your treatment plan. Typically a Dermapen treatment schedule would be 4-6 treatments, 6-8 weeks apart, followed by maintenance.

Dermapen can help many skin problems, including signs of ageing – fine lines, wrinkles, loss of elasticity and poor skin tone, acne scarring. It can help skin to look smoother, brighter with a more toned, even complexion.

Acupuncture and Dermapen treatment packages can also be created to ensure optimum treatment for your skin.

Additional Therapies

Moxa and moxibustion

Moxibustion is an important part of Chinese medicine and an integral part of acupuncture. It has wide uses in healing, and is warm and nourishing with a distinct smell, helping to maintain health and strengthen the immune system; moving qi and blood in order to improve circulation, which in turn can relieve pain or muscle tension.

Moxibustion is the method of heating specific acupuncture points or
meridians by burning the herb mugwort (Artemis Vulgaris) either on an acupuncture needle or near to the skin. Most patients find the smell and warmth pleasant and relaxing.

Cupping

Cupping can be used as part of acupuncture treatment, or as a standalone therapy. it focuses on meridians or on certain acupuncture points.

The term “Cupping” applies to a technique that uses small glass, plastic cups or bamboo jars as suction devices that are placed on the skin. Once the suction has occurred, the cups can be gently moved
across the skin.

The suction in the cups causes the skin and superficial muscle layer to be lightly drawn into the cup. For most patients, this is a particularly relaxing and relieving sensation. Once suctioned, the cups are generally left in place for about ten minutes while the patient relaxes. Cupping is used to relieve back and neck pains, stiff muscles, anxiety, fatigue, migraines, rheumatism, and even cellulite.

Auricular acupuncture

Ear acupuncture works on the basis that the ear is a microsystem that reflects the whole body, in same way that reflexology works with the foot. It is a healthcare system which can alleviate acute pain or treat more chronic conditions and is widely used for addiction, cessation of smoking or weight loss in conjunction with a related programme.

It is also helpful in alleviating stress or anxiety. Needles, ear seeds, magnets or massage may be used to stimulate ear points. It can also be used together with acupuncture for certain treatments.
